Sushing Chen was trained as a mathematician and later switched to a computer science career. He have focused the research on bioinformatics, computational biology and biomedical informatics since 1998. Such research activities were reinforced further by the visiting position at the CAS-MPG Partner Institute of Computational Biology in Shanghai, China, 2006-2009, after his retirement in Computer Information Science and Engineering at the University of Florida. Sushing Chen backgrounds in mathematics, computer science and artificial intelligence enhance often his studies in biomedicine, thus have established the Systems Biology Lab in the Department of Computer Information Science and Engineering, where they conduct interdisciplinary, mostly unfunded research projects.
Sushing Chen research interests include Cancer biomarkers for classification and diagnosis, integrated diagnosis and therapeutics for precision medicine, systems pharmacology, herbal medicine for complementary and alternative medicine.
