Dr. Akira Sugawara is currently working as a professor in the Department of Molecular Endocrinology, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. He received his Ph.D. in internal medicine from Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine (1991) and M.D from Tohoku University School of Medicine (1987), Japan. He completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston (1991-1994). He has over 20 years of academic experience. He has published more than 120 articles in international and national journals. He got some licenses and Certifications including Japanese Medical License 303750 (1987) and Medical Specialist of Nephrology (2015). He has served as a counselor of various professional Societies such as the Japan Thyroid Association (1997) and Society for Hypertension Related Disease Model Research (1998). He also honored many awards. He serves as an editorial board member of scientific journals.
Prof. Akira Sugawara’s research interest is in the Molecular Biology of Nuclear hormone receptors, Etiology of High Blood Pressure, Pathophysiology of Diabetic Nephropathy, Gene Regulation of Aldosterone Synthesis, and Epigenetics of Hypertension and Diabetes.
