BIOGRAPHY:

Professor Jason Powell, PhD, FHEA, FRSA, FRSPH, holds a Personal Chair in Sociology and Gerontology at the University of Chester, UK. He is formerly Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences and Professor of Gerontology at Coventry University. He is Professor of Community Practice & Social Justice at Manchester Metropolitan University and is appointed as Head of Social Sciences and Professor of Community Leadership at the University of Central Lancashire. He is an Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Acting Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts (in transition to a combined Faculty), Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social & Environmental Studies, and Reader in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Liverpool; and Associate Head of School (Teaching and Learning) of Community, Health Sciences and Social Care (which had the largest social work department in the UK) and Director of Admissions (UG, PGT, PGR) at the University of Salford. He holds four Honorary Professorial posts at Guangdong Technology University, China; McMaster University, Canada; Tasmania University, Australia; and the International Centre for Education, Social and Humanitarian Studies. He has held seven Visiting Professorships in the US, UK, Jordan, South Africa and Australia.

Jason Powell has held many research and knowledge exchange grants in the UK, EU and Asia and disseminated his research globally in many publications, including 70 academic books and top-ranked refereed journal articles. These have been published in journals such as the Journal of Applied Gerontology; the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law; the International Journal of Social Welfare; Social Policy & Society; the Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences; and the Canadian Journal of Sociology. He is Editor-in-Chief of Illness, Crisis & Loss (Sage), and Series Editor for International Perspectives on Aging (Springer). He has served on 110+ editorial boards globally, including for Social Forces and Qualitative Social Work. Jason has also held eight Fellowships in professions and top ranked universities including the University of Oxford and the University of Liverpool, and was invited as Visiting Scholar at the Harvard Medical School, Tsinghua University and Victoria University, Canada. He was nominated and elected to Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and the Royal Society for Public Health. He is a former Trustee of the AQA and member of the NIHR Fellowships Committee. He is Honorary Director of GRCF-U.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Jason Powell has interests in interdisciplinary research focusing on aging and social policy.
