Nafees Ahemad

Dr. Nafees is currently working as a Senior Lecturer in the department of medicinal chemistry, Monash University, Selangor, Malaysia. He received his Ph.D. (2011) and M.S. (2005) in Natural Products chemistry/Medicinal Chemistry from National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), India. He completed his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Department of Medicinal Chemistry, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. He has two patents and also received grants from the Ministry of Education Malaysia (FRGS). He has written some book chapters and published articles in international and national journals. He has participated in international and national conferences.

Dr. Nafees’s research interest includes:

• Computer Aided Drug Design and synthesis of New Chemical Entities (NCE)
• Lead optimization to explore the functions of biologically active natural products as well as synthetic compounds
• Total synthesis of biologically active natural products
• Molecular docking and computational simulation studies
• Study of Drug/Ligand and Protein/Target interaction using STD NMR (Epitope Mapping Studies)
• Design and development of new reactions, methods, reagents, and strategies that introduce fundamentally novel ways of synthesizing complex molecules of biological or medicinal significance
