BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Michael Hooper received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Claremont Graduate University in 1988, while at the same time serving as a manager of sworn personnel within the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).  Upon completing 23 years of service with the LAPD, Lieutenant Hooper joined the Criminal Justice Program faculty at Penn State University.  After five years at Penn State, Dr. Hooper was invited to serve as a member of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).  During 13 years at POST, Bureau Chief Hooper oversaw the development and delivery of a wide array of training programs, both of the classroom and online varieties.  Currently, Dr. Hooper is an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Sonoma State University.

Dr. Michael Hooper’s research interests have expanded commensurate with his professional growth.  Early research focused on community policing and emergency management themes. In recent years, his interests have progressed to futures themes, i.e., revelation of trends that give rise to future challenges,  and the interface between technology and the human body.
