Dr. Omid Akhavan received his PhD in Physics from Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in 2003. He was immediately invited to join the Physics Department of SUT where he is currently the Elite Professor (based on the selection of the National Federation of Scientific Elites). His research interests include physics of nanomaterials, graphene and its bioapplications in stem cell-based tissue engineering, photothermal therapy of cancer, biosensing, and antibacterial nanomaterials. The first national Iranian activity on the fabrication of graphene and one of the first studies on cyto- and geno-toxicity of graphene were guided by him. He is co-author of ~150 publications with ~9500 citations.
